Bow Down

  • Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art 23 Wooster Street New York, NY 10013 (map)

Bow Down is a conversation between queer kink sex workers who discuss their particular field of sex work and how their sex careers inform their activism.

Our panelists will dig into particulars of the Whorearchy (the social, political, and economic hierarchy of sex work, both systematic and internalized), fetishism, power, sex, money, slut shaming within the broader sex industry, and how we fit into queer culture and LBGTQIA communities.

Kink Out presents an evening of Art x Activism x Conversation in conjunction with Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art's exhibition, ON OUR BACKS: The Revolutionary Art of Queer Sex Work , which explores the history of queer sex work culture.

Moderator:

Tina Horn is the writer/creator of the new queer sex work dystopian comic book series SfSx (Safe Sex), and host/producer of the long-running kink podcast Why Are People Into That?!

Panelists:

Ashley Paige is a Professional Dominatrix, Licensed Massage Therapist, Queer Fetish Porn performer, and Sex Worker Advocate. She specializes in the art of catharsis created by her extensive understanding of visceral connection through healing touch, holistic wellness, BDSM, Fetish play, and authentic companionship.

Sir Malice is a Military Vet from Long Island, NY, living life as a Pro Dom in the LGBTQIA Community. Discipline is so much more desirable.

Nahshon Anderson aka Kina is an award winning artist, writer, and trans activist who has moonlighted for a decade as a sex worker. She's also the author of forthcoming memoir "Shooting Range".

Red is a curator, community organizer, and underemployed sex working art historian. They are a queer non-binary femme, whose work exists at the intersection of art, politics, and labor. Red is involved with the Support Ho(s)e collective (founding member), Survived & Punished NY (organizer and newsletter editor), Hacking//Hustling (resident art historian and archivist), and Bluestockings Bookstore, Cafe & Activist Center (Collective Member and Zine Coordinator).

Yin Q is a Chinese American BDSM educator and writer. Their media work includes Mercy Mistress, a web series about a queer dominatrix, and Fly in Power, a short doc about Red Canary Song. Yin’s work has been honored by Spike Lee in his tribute to Jackie Robinson. As Kink Out’s founder, Yin is beyond amazed how Kink Out has evolved into a community construction site for art, conversation, and activism.

ON OUR BACKS: The Revolutionary Art of Queer Sex Work

September 28, 2019 – January 19, 2020

Curated by Alexis Heller

This exhibition explores the history of queer sex work culture, and its intimate ties to art and activism. Coined by bisexual activist, Carol Leigh, aka. The Scarlot Harlot in 1978, ‘sex work’ is broadly defined as exchanging sex or erotic services for gain and connotes personal agency and politicized action. More than a portrait of life at the margins, what emerges in this exhibit is a demonstration of queer and transgender sex workers’ deep community building, creative organizing, self-empowerment, identity/desire affirmation and healing and the use of pornography as a deft tool for queer and trans liberation.
